CIO, Standard Register

My Birthdate:
08.07.61

My Work:
As Chief Information Officer at Standard Register, I am responsible for the technology within the company including networks, PC’s, servers, applications that run the business, and the support of all of these business enablers. I believe in running IT as a business within a business which gives me the awesome chance to create a culture that embraces diversity, focus on the health and wellness of our team members, and maximize value to our customers.

My Passion:
My family, meeting new people, painting, writing, and reading. Oh yeah, and naps!

My Family:
Tim (A stay-at-home dad who knows me better than anyone), Alex (almost 17 and the funniest kid ever!)

My Heroes:
My mom and dad (Gene and Sybil married 53 years) who have always told me I could do whatever I set my mind to and made a college degree non-negotiable. They have supported me every inch of my journey!

“Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans.” (John Lennon)

My Accessory:
Clothing and jewelry inspired or bought in India.

My Advice to Young Women:
Believe and trust yourself. Don’t let anyone else manage your life or career. Your instincts will lead to your passion.

How I Balance it All:
I don’t. However, I take feedback well, so I listen to my husband, son, parents, colleagues, and friends when I am not getting it right. I’m learning to give myself feedback as well (thanks to an amazing and wonderful coach) and to know when things are not in alignment.

Woman of the Week: Stephanie Hanna

Here at Executive Elements, we like to feature fantastic women we think you should know. Some of these women are clients, some are friends, some are women we’ve only just met. Stephanie R. Hanna

My Current Job/Company:
Attorney/Carlile Patchen & Murphy LLP

My Birthdate:
04.28.83

I am a member of our firm’s litigation practice group, focusing on commercial litigation, business conflict mediation, and administrative proceedings. I try to use my background with the court to bring a unique perspective to help clients avoid the common pitfalls of litigation.

It truly takes a village.

My Heroes:
There are so many with situations tougher than I will ever know. Having worked in the public service sector, it is very easy to see the real heroes all around us. Those who have to work much harder to do the things many of us take for granted – get to work, put food on the table, survive month to month.

Ideally, I love to get away to a beach, but locally my escape is the movies. I love getting away for two hours where I can shut out the world and just be entertained.

My Advice to Young Women:
Believe in yourself. Decide what you would like to do and plan how you will get there. Don’t limit yourself.

To maintain that level of strength, there is a certain amount of nurturing that must take place. I try to make sure that I am balancing my life spending time with friends and family in addition to all my day to day responsibilities.

Train your mind to see the good in everything – it is there; just be patient and keep looking.

I do know that taking time to take care of myself each day, whether it be through an intense workout at the gym, game of Uno with my daughters, a cup of coffee, listening to my husband strum his guitar or a conversation with a good friend or colleague, it makes a difference in how I feel and how I see the world.

My Family:
A wonderful husband, Tony; 3 children and 2 grandchildren – Belinda and her husband Marcus – Sophia and Joshua; Laura, and David;

My Heroes:
My Grandmother and my mom. Both women taught me to be strong and work hard. They were exceptional role models with challenging lives. They didn’t have the opportunity to “Lean in” or have “work/life balance.” They did what was necessary to support their families and never gave up hope that their children’s lives would be better than their own.

My Accessory:
My smile – it’s always with me.

My Advice to Young Women:
Quit trying to be perfect, there is no such thing. Find something you love and do it well. Your kids will be fine if you don’t observe every waking moment of their life. Give them the gift of independence.

How I Balance it All:
I have a great husband who picks up a lot of slack. And what I can’t/won’t do, I hire out. I manage my time and decide what is important to do. And most importantly, I don’t feel guilty about an empty fridge (my kids prefer take out) or an occasional night out with the girls. A happy me is a happy home.
