marti taylorHere at Executive Elements, we like to feature fantastic women we think you should know. Some of these women are clients, some are friends, some are women we’ve only just met. But they all have this in common: they are dynamic, interesting gals who have agreed to share with us their insights and secrets to success.

Marti Taylor (Martha Ann Croll)

My Current Job/Company:
Executive Director, Ross Heart Hospital and COO Heart and Vascular Center at the OSU Wexner Medical Center

My Birthdate:
July 10, 1964

My Work:
Helping to make sense of health care reform, which I believe in the end will be better for all of us, even though getting there will be a challenge! I oversee all aspects of the Ross Heart Hospital and the OSU Heart and Vascular Center and I work with amazingly talented doctors, nurses, researchers, technicians and other great staff.

My Passion:
My family, my work and my faith. I find that a balance of all three is what keeps me going!

My Family:
My husband, my sons Zachary, 10 and Andrew, 8 and 4 older siblings.

My Heroes:
My parents, my siblings, and a dear friend—all for different reasons. My mother taught me that women have great strength and endurance….she worked full time and raised 5 children. She was my greatest coach, teaching me to be thankful for all the blessings of life, reminding me that integrity is so important, encouraging me to try my best and to always reach for the stars! My father, who didn’t finish high school, taught me that in the end, a hard day of work was well worth it. My siblings are my heroes, too, because they are all successful in their own unique ways. And lastly, Wanda Bride, who is someone who took a chance on me for my first “real job,” pushed me beyond my comfort zone during my early career and continues to give me wise advice.

My Escape:
Most recently, working with a personal trainer. I find it to be tough work, but at the end of a session, I am “ready to go!” I also love Bikram Yoga. It’s 90 minutes of heat and hard work that ultimately results in relaxation.

My Pet Peeve:
Excuses and negativity. The world would be a better place without both.

My Indulgence:
Fine red wine and chocolate

My Roots:

The youngest of 5 children, I grew up on a farm in Oak Harbor, Ohio. I spent a lot of time in the Lutheran Church, played in the band and was always surrounded by friends and family.

My Future:
Probably a little crazy and busy but full of excitement!

My Love:

Beaches, sunshine and time with family! I also love a challenging professional role…status quo just won’t do!

My Movie:
“The Sound of Music.” I have early family memories of watching it together.

My Quote:
“They may forget your name but they will always remember how you made them feel”—Maya Angelou

My Advice to Young Women:
As a nurse by training, one of favorite pieces of advice comes from Florence Nightingale: “Never give up and never accept excuses.” I also like a couple of quotes by Wayne Gretzky: “You will always miss 100 percent of the shots you never take” and “Don’t aim for where the puck is, aim for where the puck is going!” So for young ladies-: don’t give up, take risks and look to the future!

How I Balance it All:
I tend not to get too caught up in the details and try to keep the big picture in front of me. I keep a positive attitude and am thankful that I have amazing friends and family that will help out in a bind. If I am not busy and facing a challenge, life seems dull!

What inspires our Women of the Week!

Our Women of the Week inspire us everyday! We love looking back at quotes that they find inspiring!

Elisabeth Tavierne
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” – Marianne Williamson

Patricia Stafford, M.D.

“Put the uncommon effort into the common task . . . make it large by doing it in a great way.” Orison Swett Marden

Jane Abel
“If we couldn’t laugh we would all go insane.” – Jimmy Buffet

Amanda Mason
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” – Steve Jobs

Amy Reilly
“Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson

Keeping it all in Balance – What our Women of the Week have to say!

Our Women of the Week have such incredible insights! Here’s what some of them say keeps them in balance!

Miranda Morgan
I have a great husband and a great nanny who share the burden of my household responsibilities, which leaves me more quality time with my children. I am constantly working at becoming more efficient, delegating more, and stressing less about the little things both at home and at work.

Anne Boninsegna
With a lot of help, and now, a very distinct willingness to change courses whenever needed to make things work out as they need to. I put a lot of pressure on myself and my family (I wish I was more calm and Zen about things, I hope that will come with age) to follow a plan but it always turns out best when we sort of fly by the seat of our pants and adjust as we go.

Marti Taylor
I tend not to get too caught up in the details and try to keep the big picture in front of me. I keep a positive attitude and am thankful that I have amazing friends and family that will help out in a bind. If I am not busy and facing a challenge, life seems dull!

Woman of the Week – Tracy Harrison

Tracy HarrisonHere at Executive Elements, we like to introduce you to fantastic women we think you should know. Some of these women are clients, some are friends, some are women we’ve only just met. But they all have this in common: they are dynamic, interesting people who have agreed to share with us their insights and secrets to success.

My Name:
Tracy Harrison

My Current Job/Company:
Director, Business Development/Battelle for Kids

My Birthday:
09.22.1963

My Work:
I work in sales and client engagement for a not-for-profit education consulting organization. My focus is to ensure that our clients (which are large school districts) are happy with our services and solutions. I am a relationship manager.

My Passion:
Helping others tap into their strengths, connect with others and reach their goals.

My Family:
My husband Dave, Julie – 23, Mark – 21, and Sam – 18.

My Hero or Heroes:
My superhero husband. He believes in me and us. With him on my team, I can’t lose.

My Escape:
Warm temperatures, sunshine and water (preferably a lake) to sit by and chat with my husband, kids and friends.

My Pet Peeve:
People who would rather whine than take action. Meetings that go nowhere.

My Indulgence:
Binge-watching Netflix in my PJ’s.

My Roots:
Middle-class and just enough drama to keep things interesting.

My Future:
Endless possibilities (which can be scary at times).

My Favorite Quote:
For my current journey – “I am willing to put myself through anything, temporary pain or discomfort means nothing to me as long as I can see that the experience will take me to a new level. I am interested in the unknown, and the only path to the unknown is through breaking barriers, an often painful process.” – Diana Nyad.

My Accessory:
Shoes that work with great clothes, that look nice paired with the right bag, which works perfectly with a pair of sparkly earrings and…outerwear is fun too.

My Advice to Young Women:
You don’t have to have it all figured out today. You just need to know your next right move. This idea of “follow your dreams” can feel overwhelming. Instead ask yourself “How do you eat an elephant?”

How I Balance it All:
I don’t believe balance is what I hope to achieve. Balance sounds a bit “comfortable” for my personality. I am at my best when I am really busy. I work hard at being present with the people who are important to me and prioritizing my week to include as much as time with each of them as possible. Some weeks I do better than others, but when my relationships are working, the rest of my life falls into place.
