Woman of the Week ~ Jennifer Miller
Here at Executive Elements, we like to feature fantastic women we think you should know. Some of these women are clients, some are friends, some are women we’ve only just met. But they all have this in common: they are dynamic, interesting women who have agreed to share with us their insights and secrets to success.
My Name: Jennifer S. Miller, MEd.
My Current Job/Company: Author, Consultant, Parenting Coach, Expert for NBC Parent Toolkit, Confident Parents, Confident Kids
My Work: I write, illustrate, coach, consult, conduct action research, and train parents and professionals who work with parents (educators, psychologists) on research-informed ways to become more effective in advancing children’s social and emotional development. This includes cultivating skills in self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making. I’m excited to have a new book coming out on parenting and emotional intelligence.
My Passion: Children. When I was a child myself, I committed my career to children’s learning and success. Early on, I determined the most powerful way to do that was by supporting those who love and care for children every day – parents and educators.
My Family: Jason (husband, partner) and Ethan (11)
My Hero or Heroes: My husband helps people turn their lives toward a positive, authentic path daily. My son is genuinely kind to everyone he meets. I so admire and regularly learn from both of them.
My Escape: Morning mindfulness including coffee, fresh air (if the weather cooperates), deep breathing, reading of a couple of pages from an author I know will provoke thought, offer wisdom, challenge or inspire.
My Pet Peeve: Complaining with no intent to work toward positive change.
My Indulgence: Ice Cream!
My Roots: Deep heart, abiding hope, and an inner call to service despite numerous challenges and obstacles.
My Future: Filled with hope, wonder, creativity, and love.
My Favorite Quote: “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” – Albert Einstein
My Accessory: Gold heart bracelet. I never take it off.
My Advice to Young Women: Find the older women mentors who will consistently believe in you and give you chances to try and shine and try and fail and shine again.
How I Balance it All: Family always comes first. Always. I have the great blessing of being able to arrange my work around my family. I integrate my work with my family. I try out experiments with them to involve, learn, and evolve together that goes right back into informing my work.
